The innovative sports project Sport Change Project has arrived in Tenerife, bringing together 12 of the best young basketball players in Spain for an intensive week of training under the direction of the renowned coach Ángel Jareño. The training sessions will take place at the Pabellón Miguel Ángel Díaz Molina in Puerto de la Cruz, with two daily shifts: from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 17:30 to 19:30.
The Sport Change Project arises as a response to the current situation of women’s basketball, with a special focus on training girls from their first steps in this sport. This initiative aims to offer young players the opportunity to fully develop in the world of basketball, a sector that has seen a clear adultification, prioritizing competition over the technical and personal development of the young players.
Among the players present at the camp are notable promises of Spanish basketball:
- Itziar Serrano (2007), recent Spanish Junior Champion who plays this year at Zentro Basket.
- Sophie Colomer (2009), from Tenerife and a member of the Spanish National Team.
- Uki Garuba (2009), selected from Madrid, considered one of the best prospects of her generation and sister of Usman Garuba.
- Nadia Molina (2008), player from Unicaja and the Andalusian Selection, with experience in the Spanish National Team.
Additionally, on Friday the 12th and Saturday the 13th, at the same venue, the NCAA Showcase will be held, the only official NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) showcase in Europe. This event consists of games in which scouts from American universities will participate, giving the players the opportunity to be seen and selected by high-level sports programs and obtain university scholarships valued at an average of 200,000 euros. The NCAA Showcase games will take place from 18:00 to 20:00, and entry will be open to the public.
Ángel González Jareño, a reference in both professional and developmental basketball, will lead these training sessions, bringing his vast experience and knowledge to maximize the talent of these young promises.
